Teacher of the Week: Rachel Sanchez

​One of my favorite quotes by Aristotle is, “he who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” I have been teaching GED for the JCC over the past five years and I have learned so much from my students. I am always astounded that despite their many obstacle, my students want to achieve an education. Over these past few weeks, my students have worked harder than they ever have as they are teaching their own children at home.

​In January, we started partnering with Illuminart. They have been working with three of our ESL classes in the community, and have continued to provide services to our participants through videos. We encourage our students to share these videos with their children and families!

​Our Adult Education Programs are free and available in multiple locations around the Island. Enrollment is limited, and registration is ongoing.

GED/ABE Preparatory Program

​This program is for those 18 years of age or older who wish to prepare for the GED/TASC Exam. Classes provide students with the skills and knowledge needed  to take TASC Exam  in order to receive their High School Equivalency diploma. Registration is ongoing . In addition, we will help all eligible students schedule their TASC Examination at available local testing centers in Staten Island and Brooklyn. For more information, call 718.508.3895

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

​The English as a Second Language Program offers classes to help adults to improve their English language skills. Day, evening, and Saturday classes are offered at local public schools and in community facilities throughout the year. Instruction focuses on improving reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The goal of the program is for students to improve their English language skills in order to better communicate with others and participate in community activities.
