JCC After School Programs

Bernikow JCC After School

The JCC offers several after school experiences for children around our borough. Our reimagined after school program at the Bernikow JCC, Explorers: Kids Building Our World, aims to educate the whole child through various kinds of activities that stimulate the mind, body, and spirit. We also offer community-based after school programs at I.S. 49, Tottenville High School, and P.S. 65 that combine academics with socialization and recreation.

  • Music lessons at the Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute
  • Chess and other games 
  • STEAM activites, including arts & crafts

  • Sports taught by JCC coaches, including our Core 24 Basketball Academy and JCC Soccer Academy
  • Kidzercise fitness program and drills & skills physical education
  • Instructional swim from our aquatics instructors
  • Yoga and Zumba classes
  • Healthy choice cooking projects

Busing, Registration, & Schools Serviced
Busing Information:
Open daily until 7:00pm
  • Half day pickup included
  • Door to Door service from schools
Schools Serviced:
  • P.S. 4, 29, 36, 42, 48, 54, 55, 58, 69
  • I.S. 72, 75, & Petrides.
Please note pickup from a particular school is based on enrollment and transportation availability. Other schools may be considered upon request.​

When school's out, the JCC is in! Looking for something for your child to do when school is closed on Veterans Day? Kids can enjoy their favorite activities like swimming, sports, arts & crafts, and more at the Bernikow JCC! Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and all participants MUST wear a mask. Please bring your own lunch.

Meet Our Faculty
  • ​​Lisa Quinn is our After School Coordinator. She has an M.S.Ed. in Secondary Education and Special Education. She has worked with our Youth and Camp Departments for 22 years.
  • Jessica Lopez received her M.S.Ed. in School Counseling. She has 10 years of experience in our Youth Department, working as an After School Coordinator and Teen Travel Assistant Unit Director.
  • ​​Sara Bernstein is a Certified Visual Arts Teacher. She has her Bachelors in Art Education and a Masters in Special Education. She specializes in graphic design and stagecraft. Sara has been a Camp Unit Director at our Day Camp for eight years.
  • Nick Plataroti has been with the JCC for 10 years. After getting his M.S.Ed. in Elementary Education and Special Education, he has served as the School’s Out Trip Coordinator and Marvin’s Camp Unit Director.
  • Megan Adinolfi is a Speech Language Pathologist/TSSLD with an Advanced Certification in Autism Spectrum Disorder. She has 10 years of experience at the JCC, serving as the Shalom Camp Unit Director.
  • Steve Campbell received his M.S.Ed. in Special Education. He has served as the Head Junior Varsity Baseball Coach at Tottenville High School, as well as the Assistant Varsity Track & Field Coach. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In his 12 years of experience working with youth, he also served as the Unit Director for Marvin’s MORE Camp.

* All of our faculty are CPR/RTE certified.
Community Afterschool Programs
The JCC also offers Community Afterschool Beacon Programs at I.S. 49 and Tottenville High School and a COMPASS Program at P.S. 65. All of these after school programs are free and funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Registration required, please note that space is limited.
