IN THE NEWS SPONSORED NEWS: Staten Island Holocaust Center Acquires Nuremberg Trial Items The Staten Island Holocaust Center (SIHC) announced the donation of several items from the Nuremberg Trials by Bob Lurie. These authentic artifacts were collected by his late father Simon “Si” Lurie while serving in World War II. The trial of Nazi leaders for war crimes took place in Nuremberg, Germany between November 1945 and October 1946. Si Lurie, formerly of Ward Hill, was stationed in Europe during the war and was on active duty when he attended the trial. He retained programs, a ticket and other items from that event, which his son has donated for display. “We are actively looking to record the stories of survivors and GIs who liberated the concentration camps and to acquire for display any personal property in the hands of Staten Islanders that can add to the educational mission of the SIHC,” said Rachel Borenstein, the daughter of a survivor and President of the Staten Island Holocaust Center. As per the Mayor’s mandate, the following policies will be in place: Anyone who enters our fitness center and group ex studio, including employees, will need to provide proof of at least one dose of vaccination prior to entry. Please show proof of vaccination upon visiting the fitness center. As proof, we will require display of a vaccine card, or other proof of vaccination, like New York State’s “Excelsior Pass.” Click here to learn more about the NYS Excelsior Pass, which is a convenient way to ensure your vaccination record is with you at all times! After showing proof, you will be given a sticker for your key fob that you can show every future time you enter the fitness center. If an individual only has one dose of a two-dose vaccine by the effective start date, proof of the second dose must be provided within one month to continue using the fitness center. The new vaccine mandate went into effect Monday, August 16, and enforcement actions will begin September 13. Proof of vaccination is not required for any outdoor fitness activities. More information about locations where New Yorkers can receive a vaccine for COVID-19 can be found at vaccinefinder.nyc.gov or by calling 877-VAX-4-NYC. Vaccination is safe, effective and free.
