This provocative two-actor comedy explores the absurdity of prejudice and racism to teach audience members how to engage in cross-generational and cross-cultural dialogue. The performance combines fast-paced sketches, improvisations, puppets, and a game show, followed by a conversation moderated by Amy Posner, Executive Director of Hillel at CSI. The goal of the Black-Jew Dialogues is to promote open and respectful conversation among our audience members about their differences. This program is presented in collaboration with Hillel at CSI. She will also talk about the implications of colonialism and how it has fostered animosity between these groups. The JCC contracts with a local vendor to provide a Driver Education program for new drivers 16 years and older. The class meets at the South Shore/Avis JCC for classroom work and in-car classes. The course is a comprehensive introduction to the driving experience. Staten Island Witness Theater Witness Theater is seeking student participants for its new program on Staten Island! The program brings together a small group of Holocaust survivors and teens in a unique, supported, story-sharing process, which culminates in a theatrical performance based on the survivors’ stories, tenderly shared with the public by the students and survivors together. This year’s program will be a hybrid model, with some sessions in person and some on Zoom. Please note: For the safety of all involved, all participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. After coauthoring an autobiography of her Holocaust-survivor husband, she encouraged her mother to document her own story. Maya subsequently conducted wide-ranging research to fill out her mother’s story. The Nazis Knew My Name is the result.
