Please note certain dates require pre-registration. IN THE NEWS A Great Day for the 40th Annual Golf & Tennis Classic On Monday, we hosted our 40th Annual Golf & Tennis Classic. Over 120 people joined us for a day of golf, tennis, and socially distant fun! Best of all, we raised over $125,000 for JCC Kids in Need programs! MUSIC Music Institute Open for In-Person Lessons The Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute has officially re-opened for individual, in-person instrumental lessons! Lessons will take place on weekdays, Monday through Friday, between 3pm-7pm. Spaces are limited, so make sure to register early. Sign up here! All lessons will follow CDC guidelines. This class explores traditional positions of alignment for contemporary technique in order to strengthen and protect our bodies while dancing. We then employ this technique in slow choreography with opportunities for improvisation. A focus is also placed on musicality and timing. Adults of all ages welcome. Zoom link follows your registration. - Introduction to Contemporary Dance with Alyssa Rapp Tuesday, November 3, 4:30pm This class for children ages 4-6 explores traditional and contemporary technique in order to build strength and provide a foundation in dance, musicality, and timing. Zoom link follows your registration. - Harmony Club The Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute is accepting highly motivated music students in grades 9-12 to participate in a FREE comprehensive course of study. “Harmony Club” students receive private lessons and ensemble classes throughout the 2020-21 school year. In addition, students participate in master classes, and solo and group recitals. Students accepted to the program are required to fully participate in lessons and workshops and to represent the program through public performances. This program is made possible through a grant from UJA-Federation of New York. - Lincoln Center New Stages: Calidore String Quartet The Calidore String Quartet performed a live, outdoor chamber music concert earlier this month! Purchase tickets here. - Spaghetti Marshmallow Building Contest Saturday, December 5, 9am at Monsignor Farrell HS Put your architectural skills to the test by entering the Staten Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' Fall 2020 Spaghetti-Marshmallow Building Contest. This wonderful event is open to children from grades 2 through 8. Contestants will build a structure using spaghetti and marshmallows. You're encouraged to have fun, be creative, experiment with your materials, and learn something along the way! Join us for a virtual Chanukah Art Workshop for kids with artist Chloe Matuszewicz! Tickets include a pre-sketched canvas and all other supplies needed. A Conversation with LGBTQ+ People of Color Thursday, October 29, 2:30pm Join the Wagner College Center for Intercultural Advancement, the College of Staten Island LGBTQ Resource Center, and Pride Center of Staten Island for a conversation with LGBTQ+ People of Color about forming their identity within the LGBTQ+ community. This panel discussion will focus on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people of color, their coming out process, acceptance in the LGBTQ+ community, and how they operate in the world. The goal of this panel discussion is to create a safe space through which we can explore topics of identity and bring together LGBTQ+ POC and their allies on campus. Register for the meeting here.
