Topics will include choosing an accessible virtual conferencing platform, advertising with accessibility in mind, hiring access professionals, preparing your tech and presenters, and starting with an access check. The JCC is proud to support people with disabilities and believes that everyone should have opportunities to be included. Zoom link follows your registration. - SAJE Presents...Memories of a Child Holocaust Survivor in Terezin Wednesday, November 18, 7pm The Dr. Esther Grushkin Seminars for Adult Jewish Education (SAJE) is proud to partner with the Wagner College Holocaust Center to present a conversation with Holocaust survivor, Dr. Inge Auerbacher. Inge grew up in Kippenheim Germany. In August 1942, she was deported to Terezin with her parents and beloved doll Marlene. Of the 15,000 children sent there, only 100 survived. A chemist by profession, Inge has spoken in countries around the world. She has a special relationship with Staten Island's own P.S. 22 choir, which has sung two of her poems, including at the U.N. She is the author of 6 books, including I am a Star: Child of the Holocaust. She was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Koufax, who famously chose not to start Game 1 of the 1965 World Series for the Dodgers because it fell on Yom Kippur, has been an inspiration to so many and we can't wait to hear about his story. MUSIC Music Institute Open for In-Person Lessons The Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute has officially re-opened for individual, in-person instrumental lessons! Getting Started: A Writing Workshop Exclusively for Descendants of Holocaust Survivors Sunday, November 22, 2pm The Virtual JCC invites descendants of Holocaust survivors to an informative workshop that explores how to approach and shape your family’s Holocaust narrative. This online program will help you develop a concise written history by providing thoughtful prompts and the tools necessary to begin this journey. Learn more and register here. Displaced Jews at the End of the Second World War Monday, November 23, 8pm David Nasaw explores what happened to the one million people, including between 200,000 and 250,000 Jews, who were left behind in Germany at the end of the war, who either could not go home or had no homes to go to. These last million would spend the next three to five years in displaced persons camps as the international community debated over their fate. Watch here.
