Zoom information to follow registration. - One Hand, One Heart: An Intergenerational Celebration of Broadway & Yiddish Song Wednesday, January 20, 7pm The JCC and the Dr. Esther Grushkin Seminars for Adult Jewish Education (SAJE) are proud to partner with the Wagner College Chai Society and Wagner College Holocaust Center to present a special celebration of Broadway and Yiddish song! Multi-ethnic singing club Shir Levav (Sing from the Heart) will join with with Holocaust Survivor Arthur Spielman to perform music by Jewish composers of Broadway and a few favorite Yiddish songs. The program will be hosted by 2nd generation survivor Mickey Tennenbaum, Professor of Theater at Wagner College. Register here. IN THE NEWS Recap: JCC Hosts Pop-Up Vaccine Clinic This weekend, we partnered with Governor Cuomo's office to host a pop-up vaccine clinic at the Gerard Carter Center for seniors who are residents at the Stapleton Houses. We helped more than 200 seniors get vaccinated! We are proud to do our part by helping vulnerable populations get the vaccine! - COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Last week, New York State expanded vaccine eligibility to Group 1b, which includes individuals 65 and older, first responders, teachers, grocery store workers, and others. Check the full list of eligible groups here. To find out if you're eligible for the vaccine at this stage, you can also fill out this screener. Our staff is compiling an updated list of vaccine distribution sites around the Staten Island community. If you or someone you know is eligible for a vaccine but having trouble finding an appointment, email acohen@sijcc.com to be added to an email list and receive updates about new sites as they pop up! - CLLD Grab & Go Meals Update We would like to thank Sunrise Senior Living for sponsoring our initiative to continue feeding seniors in 2021! If you are in need of assistance, please contact the CLLD office at 718.517.7445. Individuals who have not yet received a meal delivery from the Department for the Aging must call 311 to enroll. - Staten Island: Stay Strong, Stay Safe With the second wave of the pandemic upon us, it's more important than ever that we stay safe and strong this holiday season. Let's keep our community in good health and safeguard one another so that we can all live, work, learn, and play with confidence. We've partnered with the Staten Island Not for Profit Association to be part of the #SIStayStrongStaySafe campaign. We're partnering with the Richmond Rockets running club in February to promote fitness while also raising money to continue feeding seniors during the pandemic. Partial scholarships are open to students entering grades 5-12 who have some prior training on their instrument. Our Harmony Club scholarship program is open to highly motivated students in grades 9-12. “Harmony Club” students will take free private lessons and ensemble classes. Students will also participate in master classes, and solo and group recitals. This program is made possible through a grant from UJA-Federation of New York. The Kabbalah of The Beatles Thursday, February 11, 7:30pm Rock Historian, Seth Rogovoy, will explore the secret Jewish history of the Beatles with Boston University music professor Jeremy Yudkin, who grew up in North London during the height of Beatlemania. John Lennon once said, “Show business is an extension of the Jewish religion.” While the four members of The Beatles did not themselves have any Jewish lineage, the circle of personal and professional colleagues surrounding them was heavily Jewish, from their manager, Brian Epstein, to filmmaker Richard Lester to their hairdresser, Leslie Cavendish.
