Home of the Center for Life Long Development (CLLD)

The Joan & Alan Bernikow JCC of Staten Island is proud to serve as the home of Staten Island's Older Adult Center Network. The network includes three locations: the Bernikow Building, the Avis/South Shore Building, and the Stapleton Older Adult Center. Together, these centers operate Center for Lifelong Development (CLLD)programming, creating a connected network of activities, services, and resources for older adults throughout the community.

Our Mission

The Center for Lifelong Development is committed to supporting older adults through every stage of aging by promoting wellness, encouraging lifelong learning, and fostering meaningful social connections. Our goal is to help participants remain active, engaged, and empowered while enhancing their overall quality of life.

Flexible and Accessible Programming

Programs are offered in person and virtually, so participants can stay connected no matter their circumstances. Transportation between locations makes it easy to attend classes, events, and activities at any of our three centers.

Programs and Services

Participants have access to a wide variety of programs and resources, including:

  • Educational opportunities

  • Health management programs

  • Recreational activities

  • Educational lectures

  • Arts and cultural programs

  • Technology classes

  • Meal programs

  • Transportation services

  • Physical exercise and fitness programs

  • Health insurance guidance and care coordination

All three centers offer evidence-based programming—proven approaches shown to promote health and reduce the risk of chronic disease and falls.

Our Community Impact

The Older Adult Center Network creates opportunities for individuals to build friendships, discover new interests, strengthen their well-being, and remain actively involved in the community while receiving the support and resources they need.

Case Assistance

Navigating benefits and services shouldn't be complicated.
Our case assistance program is here to help older adults access the resources they need—offering free, by-appointment support with:

  • Food pantry & assistance

  • Legal referrals

  • Health insurance

  • Benefits enrollment

  • Medical referrals

  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
