The Dementia Coalition was created out of a Needs Assessment that was completed. The findings were that there is a gap in linkage between healthcare providers and community resources, barriers for individuals with dementia and their family caregivers, and that programmatic considerations need to be made for individuals with dementia. The JCC is the backbone of the Coalition in bringing as many community members to the table to provide linkages, resources and support to the greater community. It also spearheads efforts to understand support the needs of individuals with dementia and supports partner in developing Staten Island into a “Dementia Friendly Community.
