PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Youth

If your children take swimming lessons at the JCC and progress through the levels, chances are they will encounter multiple instructors along the way. This is a good thing!
Why is there teacher turnover?
You may be used to a traditional school setting, where your child has the same teacher the entire year, or sports teams, where you have the same coach year after year.
We want extraordinary results for everyone – including our instructors. This means that our instructors may also be taking college courses and advancing their careers, in and out of the JCC. They may have to leave for a semester or alter their schedules and may not remain at the same time slot as your child's swimming lesson.
But rest assured, our instructors are all devoted to you and your family while they're here! Our instructors use integrity, compassion, and trust to build a rapport and teach kids how to swim and be safer in and around the water. Their diligence in bettering themselves means they are bringing their best to the table in every area of their lives.
Why is this good for kids?
Interacting with new personalities brings great benefits to everyone. It teaches them to adapt to new people and situations.
Having a new instructor also provides new learning opportunities for your child. Sometimes children reach a plateau in their learning, and a new instructor may be just what they need to get over that hurdle and advance to the next level.
We know that there are times when having a new instructor can bring about uncertainty, particularly when your child has special needs, but we work with each family and child to ensure the best possible experience.

Trident Aquatic Club
Trident Aquatic Club is our competitive swim team. All of our groups practice out of the Bernikow JCC’s 6 lane, 25 yard pool.
United States Swimming
Trident Aquatic Club at the JCC is a registered member of United States Swimming. All members of Trident Aquatic Club at the JCC will be able to compete at United States Swim Meets.
Metropolitan Swimming
Trident Aquatic Club at the JCC is a member of Metropolitan Swimming. This is our Local Swim Committee (LSC) for the New York Metropolitan Area.
There are five separate levels to the Trident Aquatic Club swim team at the JCC. The groups are separated by skill, ability level, and dedication. Swimmers must try out for the team and are placed in each group at the coaches' discretion. The coaches will evaluate movement from one group to the next at the end of each swim season (in March and September).  Practice and meet attendance is expected of all training groups.  During the short course season, we attend one meet per month (October - January). There are championship meets that swimmers must qualify for in February and March.  The same goes for the long course season.  We attend one meet a month (May - July) and championship meets occur in July.
We also have a pre-competitive program for children ages 6-18, which helps those who wish to become competitive swimmers. Focus is on the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. The class also promotes the perfection of starts and turns. Designed for beginner swimmers with basic knowledge in all strokes or the more advanced swimmer not quite ready for competition. This is an ongoing program that has 42 classes per session. Please call for tryout times and appointments.
