Fitness Center Update as of June 1st

As the COVID-19 positivity rate in New York continues to remain low, we are excited to be adapting our COVID-19 guidelines, albeit cautiously. As you review our information, please consider that the population of the JCC includes young children, older adults, and everyone in between. We ask everyone to be considerate of those you come in contact with.

As of June 1st:
  • When arriving at the JCC, before entering the building, you will still be required to complete a daily wellness checklist and temperature check.
  • Fitness Center and indoor Group Exercise class capacity are based on keeping a distance of 6 feet between members. We ask that members continue to respect this policy.
  • Masks must be worn throughout the building, but once inside the Fitness Center or when taking an indoor Group Exercise class, they may be removed ONLY if you are vaccinated and have shown proof. Upon showing acceptable proof of vaccination, including vaccination card or NYS Excelsior Pass Wallet app, at either desk, you will receive a sticker to place on your key fob/membership ID. You will be asked to show your sticker once inside the Fitness Center and/or indoor Group Exercise class if you choose to remove your mask.
  • Reservations for the Fitness Center are no longer required.
  • Reservations for Group Exercise are still required to attend. Classes are being added during the day and at night and continue to be available both indoors and outdoors. Click here for the schedule.
  • The Basketball Gymnasium will now be available for open play. Masks must be worn as this is a close contact sport and 6 feet distance cannot always be maintained. No more than 6 people per basket is allowed. Click here for the schedule and policies.
  • Key fobs/ID cards are mandatory in order to use the facility. You must swipe both in and out of the Fitness Center and facility so that contact tracing can be conducted in the event of a COVID case.
  • We are excited to announce expanded Fitness Center hours as of June 1st:
    • Monday – Thursday: 6am – 1:30pm
                                                    1:30pm – 2:30pm Cleaning Break
                                                    2:30pm – 9pm
  • Friday: 6am – 1:30pm
                     1:30pm – 2:30pm Cleaning Break
                     2:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: 8am – 2pm
Although we are maintaining a midday cleaning break, we still ask that members clean the equipment after use.
  • All policies and procedures for the Indoor Pool remain in place. We are pleased to offer extended hours as of June 1st:
    • Monday – Thursday: 6am – 9:30pm
    • Friday: 6am – 5:45pm
    • Saturday & Sunday: 7am – 1:45pm
  • Showers and lockers will be available for use. As in the Fitness Center, we will leave disinfectant to spray down the shower handles and inside lockers before and after use.
  • Water fountains, towel service, sauna, steam, and jacuzzi will remain closed.

We remain committed to the health and safety of all who enter our facilities, and our policies will continue to evolve as guidance changes. We appreciate your commitment to our JCC and look forward to seeing you at and in the Fitness Center, Group Exercise classes and Indoor Pool!

Frequently Asked Questions

Membership information:
Please see our full Fitness Center reopening plan here.
In order to use the Fitness Center, your membership must be active. If you froze your membership with a membership extension from October–December 2020, it has restarted as of January 1st.  Members who paid monthly and are not delinquent or in good standing, meaning no dues owed, had their billing restarted. If you paid in full for your membership, the amount of months that we were closed will be added to your account, extending your expiration date.

If you would like to keep your membership on freeze for up to three more months (January – March 2021), you can pay an additional one-time fee:
  • $25 for Individual, Senior, Young Adult and Teen
  • $35 for Couple, Senior Couple and Single Parent Family
  • $45 for Family
Once that additional freeze is done (at the discounted one-time freeze fee rate instead of the usual monthly fee), the regular freeze policy will go into effect for future holds on your membership.

If you cancelled your membership and wish to use the Fitness Center, you must rejoin.
To renew your WellPro Membership, click here.
To renew your Wellness Membership, click here.
If you wish to remain on freeze, please email membership@sijcc.com.

When you enter our facilities, please swipe your key fob when you enter the building and at all Sports & Wellness areas. We ask that you review and follow all of our COVID-19 policies and procedures for your safety. All of our policies are listed here.

  • What are the Hours of operation?
Click here for hours of operation and contact info.
  • Once I am a member, can I upgrade or downgrade my membership?
Upgrade your membership by adding on immediate family members. You would pay the difference of the initiation fee as well as the dues. Downgrade your membership by taking away members. There is a $25 administrative fee and your dues will be adjusted accordingly. Please note: You may not upgrade to a family membership for just the summer and downgrade in the fall.
  • Can I put my membership on hold?
You can place your membership on a freeze or inactive status for personal or medical reasons. Please call membership services directly to place your membership on hold.
  • What happens if I want to cancel my membership prior to the one year agreement?
There are three ways in which to cancel your membership prior to the one year agreement with proof, 30 days notice and a category based fee of $25-$45: 1) If you relocate geographically, 2) have a medical issue or 3) have a financial issue. Contact the Membership Services office for details or if you should have an extenuating circumstance.
  • What if I need to make basic changes to my membership like a credit card #, e-mail, address change, submit a payment, etc.?
You can make changes via phone at 718.475.5223 or by email at membership@sijcc.com.
  • Can I bring a Guest(s)?
Due to COVID-19, guests are not currently allowed.
  • What should I do if I lose my ID/Access card?
Stop by the Front Desk.  They will first check to see if your card was turned in. If not, they will verify your membership and then re-issue a card for a replacement fee of $15.00.  You must carry and have your card with you at ALL times to allow you into membership spaces and to receive towels.
  • Is there babysitting available?
Due to COVID-19, babysitting is not currently available.
  • What can my children do/use?
Any member, any age, can use the pools and gymnasiums.  From ages 6-11, they will need to be supervised at all times.
Ages 12 and older can be in the Center unsupervised as long as they are well behaved.
  • If my child(ren) are on the membership, can they go to the pool?
Absolutely, but if they are under the age of 12, they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
  • What about the Fitness Center?
Children 12 & under are not permitted in the Fitness Center at all but may take Kids Fitness classes. See the Group Exercise Schedule. Youth 13 -15 years are able to use the Fitness Center only after undergoing a JCC Teen Tune-Up Certification Course for a $40 fee. 16 older can come and go as adults do.
  • Where can I get a pool and fitness schedule and does it change? Are there any gender specific times for any areas of the Center?
Click here for the Pool Schedule or here for the Group Ex Schedule.
  • Is there anyone to show me how to use the fitness equipment?
Due to COVID-19, this service is suspended.
  • What should I wear to the fitness center?
Active wear – sneakers, sweatpants, shorts, t-shirts and sweatshirts. No jeans, slacks, khakis, jean shorts or skirts as well as articles with metal grommets. Sneakers also must be worn, no flip flops, water shoes or open toed shoes. Members must be dressed appropriately to be allowed in the fitness center with no exceptions.
  • What should I wear to the swimming pool?
Bathing suits and a swimming cap if your hair is shoulder length or longer.  You may also pull your hair up as well. We recommend that you wear flip flops or water shoes. No street shoes are allowed on the pool deck.
  • Do I need a lock?
Due to COVID-19, lockers are unavailable. If you need to change clothes, you can use the locker rooms or restrooms to do so.
  • Is there anything I need to bring to the Fitness Center?
Yes – you must have your ID/Access Card with you at all times. Also, bring earphones if you would like to plug into our personal viewing TV screens. Please bring your own towel and water bottle, as water fountains are closed and towel service is suspended due to COVID-19.
  • Is there anything I need to bring to the Pool?
Just your swimsuit, towel, bathing cap and anything else you may need such as ear or nose plugs. Towel service is currently suspended due to COVID-19.
  • Are there any rules for use of the steam room, sauna, and whirlpool?
Due to COVID-19, these areas are currently closed.
