We operate a Kosher Food Pantry at the Joan & Alan Bernikow JCC. Individuals schedule appointments to ensure personal and confidential one-on-one services. All food in our food pantry is Kosher and Halal. We also help those in need of food enroll in SNAP Benefits (Food Stamps).
Our pantry is unique in that no one ever waits in a line to receive food, and families can pick the items they want from our extensive, healthy selection. We have now transitioned to a digital food pantry, which will empower users to “shop” for their food, similar to grocery pickup services like Instacart.
As the home of the borough’s first food pantry supporting online ordering, the JCC looks forward to offering more convenient access to nutritious food for Staten Islanders in need.
Powered by Market by Met Council, online ordering is the JCC’s latest innovative effort to better serve its clients. During the pandemic, the JCC joined an app that gave clients the option to book their appointments online, reducing wait times and food pantry lines.
The new, fully digitized system, which launched in August 2023, is fully operational and offers greater convenience and confidentiality for clients. You can sign up here!
Donations come from UJA Federation of NY, Food Bank of NYC, Richmond County Savings Foundation, United Way, DYCD, individuals, and businesses. Our Day Hab participants and volunteers help stock the shelves and prepare packages for families in need. Each year, our food pantry serves over 15,000 food packages to over 1,000 families.
