About Police Officer Gerard Carter:
The community center was named after fallen Police Officer Gerard Carter who was killed in the line of duty while apprehending a suspect after only five years of service. Officer Carter is best remembered for his generosity and always going above and beyond what was expected on him.
Officer Carter chose to become an officer because he realized the city needed a cop with heart and with understanding for the people he served. As he patrolled the streets of Stapleton he knew so well, Officer Carter balanced his authority with compassion. He knew the streets and the problems within the community, and Officer Carter tried every day to make a difference. The Gerard Carter Community Center is a wonderful testimonial to his love for youth programs in which he volunteered and his commitment to this community.
