​MONDAY, JUNE 14th

Minding the Body: 9:30 AM - 9:45 AM
  • These exercises will focus on strength, core stabililty, flexibility, and breathing. This class will be led by Lina Taliercio.

Healthy Aging for Older Adults: 10 AM - 12 PM
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and preventing injuries are some of the key fundamentals to leading a happy and healthy life. Join us for discussion, interaction, and fun! This presentation will cover topics such as the importance of staying active, aging and your eyes, why what you eat matters, dealing with crazy drivers, and much more. Join injury prevention professionals Julia Glauboch and Gia Ramsey to learn tips and tricks to stay healthy as you age.

Julia Glauboch, RN, BSN
Julia Glauboch is the Injury Prevention Coordinator at Staten Island University Hospital, a Level-1 trauma center. She received her BSN from Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, New York. In her current role, she is responsible for helping to improve outcomes resulting from trauma and to prevent injury by raising public awareness of both adult and pediatric injury prevention practices. She is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of trauma prevention programs for each major age group. Her education outreach program includes fall prevention programs, teen injury prevention classes, car seat safety and teaching bleeding control techniques. Julia is also an active member of many local, regional and national community-based and injury prevention organizations with whom she frequently collaborates on broader trauma prevention.
Gia Ramsey
​Gia Ramsey joined Maimonides Medical Center’s Trauma Division 5 years ago upon its inception, as the Injury Prevention/Education Outreach Coordinator. A 10-year injury prevention veteran, Gia has degrees in both nursing and allied health, and is currently pursuing her MBA. Ms. Ramsey holds many instructor certifications, most notably for Safe Sitter, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, A Matter of Balance, Stop the Bleed, and as a child passenger safety technician instructor. Gia is the co-chair for her regional trauma injury prevention committee, is a coalition member of many organizations locally, statewide, and nationally, and was awarded the New York State American Trauma Society’s 2020 Injury Prevention Professional of the year. Under her direction, Maimonides is a data collection site for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, providing data that will benefit prevention work nationwide.

  • Please join Kim Leo as she will be creating an interactive recipe that is not only fun to prepare but nutritious as well. Along with dietitian, Maria Fanzone, MS, RD, we will be discussing the health benefits of cooking at home. Here are some of the benefits of cooking as we age:
    • Stimulates the senses- Sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch are senses we likely all take for granted.
    • Brings back memories- Our senses are strongly tied to memory.
    • Improves appetite. Many seniors experience a decrease in appetite.
    • Encourages socializing

Maria is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Richmond University Medical Center. She is a Registered Dietitian as well as a Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist in NY State. She has over 25 years’ experience in clinical nutrition.

​Kim Leo
Highly talented, Executive Chef with over 30 years’ experience in Restaurant Management holding a BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Currently working on new project Kitchen by Kim Cooks previous executive Chef of Kim Cooks and Caters 2019 and previous Executive Chef of Sofia’s Taqueria voted “Best Mexican food on Staten Island” after four months.   • A variety of calming and empowering exercises for the mind that has proven to help decrease anxiety and pain while enhancing sleep. This class will be led by Lina Taliercio.

The Perils, Pleasures and Pathways of Dating After 50 or Way Way After 50: 10 AM – 12 PM
  • Love has no age limit on it... but it gets harder to find as we age. This talk talks about the perils and plesures of dating after 50, 60,70 or late. It also gives advice on how to successfully and safely meet a romantic partner on or off line.

Secrets of Happy Marriages: Strategies for Resilience and Connection Over the Life Cycle: 2 PM- 4 PM
  • This lecture looks at a study on how people's actions promote happiness in marriage. Male and Female needs are often the same, but sometimes there are big differences. The lecture will give tools and tips about how to keep a relationship happy or revive one that has become stagnant or oppositional.

Dr. Pepper Schwartz
Acclaimed author, researcher, and television personality, Pepper Schwartz has devoted her life to furthering the fields of intimacy and sexuality. After achieving a BA and MA at Washington University, St. Louis, Schwartz went on to receive her PhD in Sociology at Yale University in 1974. Over the past 40 years, Pepper has become a prolific writer, authoring many academic and popular articles as well as 25 books on the subjects of love, sexuality, and commitment. Two of those books American Couples and The Normal Bar: The Surprising Secrets of Happy Couples have been on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Several others, including Prime, Ten Talks Parents Must Have with Children About Sex and Character, Peer Marriage, and The Great Sex Weekend were featured on Oprah. Her latest books are SNAP Strategies for Couples, Frommer's Places for Passion, and 50 Great Myths of Human Sexuality.

  • Engaging body and soul with calming and relaxing stretches while breathing. This class will be led by Lina Taliercio.

Decluttering: A Journey to Clear the Clutter and Make Space for a Healthier You: 10 AM – 12 PM
  • When we think of decluttering and organizing, we usually think only of the benefits as they relate to a physical space, a kitchen, closet, office, or basement.  What many people don't realize is that our living/working environment affects us in many ways.  It has a direct impact on our anxiety levels, the quality of our sleep, our ability to focus, and even our stress levels.  Decluttering and organizing our spaces enables us to declutter our minds which in turn will have a direct impact on our health and happiness.​ We all have different starting points and end goals. In this presentation, I will share tips on how to get out from under the clutter and start moving forward in the direction that enables you to reach your individual goals. Know that it is possible to gain control over your possessions and space.  Soon you’ll be on the way to uncover your best self with a renewed sense of calm and confidence to live your best life.  ​

Karen Lawrence is a professional home and office organizer. She is the owner of Journey Moments LLC, a Staten Island based professional organizing company. Social Isolation and Loneliness in Late Life During COVID-19: Effects on Mental Health and Recommendations:

  • This presentation will focus on the effects of social isolation and loneliness on mental and physical health during COVID-19 and beyond. It will address the importance of social interactions and provide recommendations on how to facilitate wellness.

Nili Solomov, PhD
Nili Solomonov, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Solomonov received. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and a researcher. Dr. Solomonov’s research focuses on identifying brain-based and clinical mechanisms of change in psychotherapies for mood disorders, with specific focus on interpersonal and social factors. Her work focuses on identifying how to target those mechanisms using personalized psychotherapeutic interventions, tailored to patients’ specific needs and circumstances. Dr. Solomonov is the recipient of K23 NIMH Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award. She is currently leading a randomized controlled trial testing target engagement of the reward system during social reward psychotherapy for mid- and late-life depression.


​THURSDAY, JUNE 17TH

  • Broadway musicals entertain on many levels including the impactful energy to supply to our minds and bodies.

Fred Grieco
Fred is a retired NYC teacher with over 35 years of experience performing and directing in community theaters (including readings and musical revues at the Staten Island JCC). Since June, 2016 he has led a weekly "Art of Broadway" class for the JCC. He has also conducted theatre arts lectures for the Rockaway Theatre Company and SAJE. He will literally use any excuse to talk about and share his passion.
Sex After 60: 2 PM - 4 PM​
  • Living a long, fulfilling sex positive life is a worthy goal. Despite those who might suggest that older people aren't "all that interested in that stuff", seniors are deserving of joyful intimacy and sexual pleasure that meets their desires and needs. This session will offer thoughtful exploration and open discussion about a range of issues important to people seeking to live their best lives, including enjoying a healthy sexual life.
Pamela Boyle, MS
Pamela Boyle, MS, has worked in the field of sexuality education and counseling for almost 45 years. Her areas of interest include sexuality and the impact of chronic medical conditions as well as intimacy, sexuality and aging. She holds the philosophy that all people have the right to enjoy intimacy, sexual pleasure, joyful physical connection as parts of being fully human.

Stress Reduction After Covid: 10 AM - 12 PM
  • Stress and anxiety are everywhere! We live with stress all the time. Many life issues that cause stress are out of our control, but there are techniques and practices we can use in our daily lives to address stress-related anxiety. Dr. Wetzel will discuss different types of stress as well as present specific techniques that we can use to reduce our anxiety. Reducing distress will improve our life outlook as well as our health. Come give it a try!

Nancy Wagner-Wetzel
NANCY WAGNER-WETZEL is a NYS licensed psychologist who lives on Staten Island. She has been working as a psychologist since her graduation from Yeshiva University in 1982, with a Doctor of Psychology degree. Dr. Wetzel specializes in serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. She is semi-retired, but continues to work part-time in the Mental Health Centers of Children’s Aid Society on Staten Island and Health Care Choices in Brooklyn. She is also the Supervising Psychologist at NYSID on Staten Island, an agency that provides evaluations for children with Autism and ID.
