Celebrating Women's History Month: Women Leaders of the JCC In honor of Women's History Month, we wanted to highlight just a few of the many dedicated women at the JCC, whose dedication makes an impact in the lives of the communities we serve. Meet Bella Smorgonskaya, Director of Arts & Culture! Bella coordinates enriching programs that promote Jewish education, culture, and values. Born in Russia, Bella also spent several years living in Israel and loves to travel. She draws on these experiences to plan programs that expand participants’ horizons and highlight Jewish culture around the world. During the pandemic, her work has taken on additional significance as our virtual programs have become an important social lifeline for so many seniors who remain isolated at home. ECE Virtual Art Show We miss inviting everyone to the J to admire our preschool students' artwork, but this year, we're bringing our Annual Art Show to you virtually! Check out this video here! Flora Visits Berman Flora, one of our ECE mascots, has been visiting the students at our Berman location twice a week since January. She gives the children flowers for all of the wonderful things they do and they are always so excited to see her! Grab & Go Meals for Seniors Grab-and-Go meal service for Seniors in Need have resumed and will continue through March 24th. Distribution will take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11am. Due to our limited funding, we can only provide 2 meals per person. Since we have fewer meals to give away, we ask that only those in need take part in this food distribution. We have been getting hundreds of requests for help finding vaccine appointments. We will continue to work with our partners in government to help eligible people find appointments. Scholarship Opportunities We have several scholarship opportunities available for deserving music students! Partial scholarships are open to students entering grades 5-12 who have some prior training on their instrument. Our Harmony Club scholarship program is open to highly motivated students in grades 9-12. “Harmony Club” students will take free private lessons and ensemble classes. Students will also participate in master classes, and solo and group recitals. This program is made possible through a grant from UJA-Federation of New York.
