Read the full story here. City Health Department Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi recently stated that "the spread of the Delta variant means it is perhaps the most dangerous time to be unvaccinated." Now is the time to get vaccinated to protect yourselves, your loved ones, and vulnerable members of the community. Sunday, August 22 At this year's Five Boro Bike Tour, we are racing towards the goal of raising $6,000 to send a child to Sunrise Day Camp-Staten Island next summer! We post photos from each division weekly! - IlluminArt Productions Performing Arts Camp August 2-August 6 Bernikow JCC Performing Arts Camp, run by IlluminArt Productions, is a great way to make new friends, build self-confidence, and express yourself! Campers will dive into an imagination zone, where they’ll get hands-on experience in all aspects of theater including acting, improvisation, dance, and music. Our young thespians will even create an original play to perform for their fellow campers and family members! Register here! SOCIAL SERVICES Advance Child Tax Credit (AdvCTC) Eligibility The American Rescue Plan expands the Child Tax Credit (CTC) for tax year 2021, providing nearly all families up to $300 a month per child in advance payments until the end of 2021 and up to $1800 per child when they file in 2022. Monthly advance payments will start on July 15th. Your family may be eligible if you have a child who meets the following criteria:
- Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) Today’s high school students are tomorrow’s Jewish leaders. Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT), American Jewish Committee's education and advocacy program for teens, empowers young Jews to speak up for Israel and the Jewish people. The program is open to students who will be high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors this upcoming fall. (Special preference will be given to juniors.) American Jewish Committee: Take Action The American Jewish Committee encourages you to take action against antisemitism by urging your U.S. Representative to support the Palestinian International Terrorism Support Prevention Act (H.R.261). Watch here. There Was No Silence: A Documentary by Joe Allen Monday, July 26, 9am In September 1972, 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team were murdered by Palestinian terrorists in Munich, Germany. Not only did the International Olympic Committee fail to properly recognize the horrific tragedy, but the games proceeded as normal, as if nothing unusual ever occurred - and they have refused to recognize the Munich Massacre for 23 Olympic Games and counting. Joe Allen, with the help of JCC Rockland, produced this spectacular documentary showing what is being done to bring light and recognition to those who perished. Watch the documentary here. After streaming live on July 26 at 9am, the documentary will remain available for on-demand viewing until July 28. Follow Up Conversation - The Fight For One Minute: Fulfilling Justice For the Munich 11 Wednesday, July 28, 7:30pm After viewing Joe Allen's documentary about the Munich 11, you are invited to join the Virtual J for a conversation about The Fight for 1 Minute: Fulfilling Justice for the Munich 11. Ankie Spitzer, the wife of the murdered Israeli Olympic coach, will join director Joe Allen to discuss the ongoing struggle for justice, where it stands today in the fight for one minute of silence, and the role of the JCC movement in helping to finally fulfill the mission of this campaign.
