IN THE NEWS In Memoriam: Pearl Minsky We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Pearl Minsky, a longtime friend of the JCC and Nancy Avis L’Dor V’Dor Award Recipient. May her memory be a blessing. - Driver's Ed is Back! We are excited to announce that Driver’s Ed will be back this fall! The JCC contracts with a local vendor to provide a Driver Education program for new drivers 16 years and older. The class meets at the South Shore/Avis JCC for classroom work and in-car classes. The course is a comprehensive introduction to the driving experience. Students must successfully complete both the road and theory portions of the course in order to receive a MV 285, formerly known as the Blue Card. Read the full story here. City Health Department Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi recently stated that "the spread of the Delta variant means it is perhaps the most dangerous time to be unvaccinated." Now is the time to get vaccinated to protect yourselves, your loved ones, and vulnerable members of the community. She baked delicious treats from scratch and donated 45% of the profits she earned to Sunrise so that children with cancer and their siblings can attend our free summer camp. We are grateful to Maddie and to everyone who supported her fundraiser! - Cycle for Sunrise! Sunday, August 22 At this year's Five Boro Bike Tour, we are racing towards the goal of raising $6,000 to send a child to Sunrise Day Camp-Staten Island next summer!
