The classical form Moliere was referring to is opera. A synthesis of music and drama, opera has held audiences enthralled since it was first developed in late 16th century Italy. The world’s first public opera house, opened in Venice in 1637, presented the later works of Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), the first real master of opera. Meanwhile in France and England, listeners heard operas by other Baroque opera masters, including Jean-Baptiste Lully, Henry Purcell, and George Frederic Handel. Film and opera director Franco Zeffirelli once said, “I have always believed that opera is a planet where the muses work together, join hands, and celebrate all the arts.” Stay tuned for next week's trivia challenge! - Virtual Instrumental Lessons As you have heard, our virtual lessons have been extended through the summer months!
